Where are silica sand mines in India?

India has silica sand deposits across several states. The main silica-sand-producing states are:

Silica sand mines in Rajasthan

Rajasthan holds some of India's purest silica sand deposits. Silica sand is mined in districts such as Karauli, Bundi, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur, Jaipur and Tonk.

Shiv Mines and Minerals operates a silica sand mine in Karauli, Rajasthan (Mining Lease M.L. No. 34/2006) and has supplied silica sand since 2006. We mine, wash and grade the sand on site for construction, industrial, glass, foundry, frac and custom grades, plus silica powder.

Why Rajasthan silica sand is in demand

Rajasthan silica is valued for high SiO₂ purity, low iron and consistent quality — which is why it is used for glass, foundry and industrial applications and exported. Independent lab analysis of our silica shows SiO₂ around 96–97% with low iron and high whiteness (see our Quality page).

Is "silicon" the same as "silica"?

People often search for "silicon mines" when they mean silica sand mines — the two are related but not identical. Silica is silicon dioxide (SiO₂), the mineral that makes up the sand we mine. Silicon (Si) is the pure element, refined from silica. So "silicon sand" or "silicon mines" almost always refers to silica sand mining.
